Privacy & Terms

Summary

In short Crimstone only keeps what its features need to work: XP, server settings, moderation records, and things you set yourself like reminders. It never sells your data or uses it for ads. You can ask for any of it to be deleted.

What Crimstone Saves

Levels Your Discord user ID and XP in each server. Your level is worked out from your XP.
Server settings Channel, role and feature choices made with /config, /auditlog, /levelrole and /rankcard
Moderation Warnings (reason and moderator) and a case history of actions taken through Crimstone: action, user, moderator, reason, duration and time. The latest 500 cases per server are kept.
Your settings Your AFK message until you next talk, your reminders until they are sent or cancelled, and your rank card style (colors, image link, tagline)
Activity Message counts per day and per channel in each server, for /serverstats. No message content and no user IDs. Daily counts are kept for 14 days.

What Crimstone Does Not Save

Messages Message content is read to award XP and answer commands, then discarded. It is not written to disk.
Deleted messages For /snipe, the last 5 deleted messages in each channel are held in memory only, and cleared whenever the bot restarts
Personal details No email address, real name, IP address, payment details, DMs or voice audio

Logs & Messages In Your Server

Mod & audit logs If a server's admins turn these on, Crimstone posts events such as bans, edited or deleted messages, joins, leaves and voice moves into a channel they choose. Those posts live in Discord and are controlled by the server.
Public by design Rank cards, leaderboards and command replies are visible to anyone who can read the channel. Your XP can appear on the global leaderboard unless your server opts out with /config.
Warnings If you are warned, Crimstone sends you a DM with the reason

Outside Services

When used Some commands send the text you type to an outside service to get an answer. Your Discord account is not sent with it.
Which ones /translate (Google Translate, MyMemory), /weather (wttr.in), /crypto (CoinGecko), /define (Free Dictionary API), /mcskin and /mcstatus (Minotar, mcsrvstat.us, mc-api.net), /github-stars (GitHub), /catfact (catfact.ninja)
Discord Everything the bot does goes through Discord, which has its own privacy policy

Keeping & Deleting Data

How long Saved data is kept until it is deleted. Removing Crimstone from a server does not erase that server's data automatically, so ask if you want it gone.
Do it yourself Clear your AFK by talking, cancel reminders with /reminder cancel, and reset your rank card with /rankcard reset. Admins can use /config reset and /auditlog reset.
Ask Email or message the support server with your Discord user ID and the server it concerns. You can get a copy of your data, have it corrected, or have it deleted, free and within 30 days. Deleted XP cannot be restored.
Your rights You may have extra rights under the GDPR or the California Consumer Privacy Act. They are honored wherever you live. Where the GDPR applies, the legal basis is legitimate interest: running a bot your server chose to add.

Security & Age

Security Data is stored on a self-hosted machine only the operator can access. No system is perfectly secure, so do not put sensitive information into the bot. If a breach affects your data, it will be announced in the support server.
Age You must be at least 13, or older if your country requires it, as Discord requires. If you think a child's data has been stored, get in touch and it will be deleted.

Terms Of Service

Agreement By using Crimstone or adding it to a server, you agree to these terms and to Discord's Terms of Service and Community Guidelines. If you do not agree, stop using the bot.
Adding the bot Only add Crimstone to servers you are allowed to manage. Server admins are responsible for how it is set up and used, and for letting members know it is there.
Don't Use Crimstone to harass anyone or break the law, spam or overload it, exploit bugs, try to access its host, or charge others for access to it
Free, as is Crimstone is a free hobby project with no warranty. It may go down, lose data or change at any time, and may be shut down without notice.
Ending access You can remove Crimstone whenever you like. Access may be blocked for users or servers that break these terms.
Liability As far as the law allows, the operator is not responsible for any loss caused by using Crimstone, including lost XP or data, or moderation actions taken through it
Open source Crimstone's code is on GitHub under its own license. These terms cover the hosted bot, not the code.

Changes & Contact

Changes This page is updated as Crimstone changes, and the effective date above always shows the current version. Big changes are announced in the support server first. Using the bot after a change means you accept it.
